Hoop Night 1/4/2008

Hoop Night is your daily preview of televised NCAA basketball action. Today we ponder a world in which asking Bill Self's Jayhawks to outperform the Kansas football team is actually a challenge.

Don't Miss

#1 North Carolina at #19 Clemson - 7:30pm Sunday, FSN
K.C. Rivers and James Mays (recently back from injury) are scoring and rebounding well for the Tigers, and Freshman Terrence Oglesby has proven to be an excellent backcourt mate for Senior Cliff Hammonds, who has seen his scoring fall off recently. UNC is a worthy #1, and it will be a joy to see them test their potent attack on the road.

Watch if you Can Mentally Conjure the Excitement this Matchup Should Have Provided

Louisville at Kentucky - 4pm Saturday, CBS
This should have been a spectacular game. Instead, it's a sad reminder that the bluegrass state isn't carrying water like it used to. Billy Gillespie has an excuse - he's new, and he's using Tubby's players. I guess Pitino's still pissed that Robert Parrish isn't walking through that door.

Tivo it Just In Case BC Pulls the Upset
#3 Kansas at Boston College - Noon Saturday, ESPN
BC is a sprightly 10-2, and sits atop the ACC rankings thanks to an early December win at Maryland. The Eagles have four solid double-figure scorers, led by Tyrese Rice, who is also pretty handy with the assists. The Jayhawks are firing on all cylinders, and need to win this roadie and a home date with Loyola to enter Big 12 play undefeated.
