Hoop Night 1/2/2008

Hoop Night is your daily preview of televised NCAA hoops. Our New Year's resolution is to cut back on the crack pipe.

Don't Miss

Kent State at #1 North Carolina - 8pm, ESPN
The Golden Flashes are actually a pretty good team, currently sitting at 10-2 in the MAC, losing only at Detroit and at Xavier so far. Sadly for them, UNC has shown the versatility needed to beat a team that's just "pretty good". If you stop the break, they dump it inside, if you stop the inside game (and who has?), they light it up from behind the arc. It's going to be a long night.

Watch if you Can Squint and Pretend it's a Bowl Game

Rutgers at South Florida - 7pm, ESPN2
If you look at the current Big East standings, Cincinnati (6-7) is on top, and Louisville (9-4) is dead last, thanks to their game being the only conference tilt that has been played. None of that changes the fact that USF (9-4) and Rutgers (8-5) are in the bottom quarter of the 16-team league and don't figure to do much more than that due to the Big East's four top-25 ranked teams (and three who were formerly ranked).

Tivo it and Watch the Fiesta Bowl

Penn State at Northwestern - 9pm, ESPN2
My mom always told me "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all".

Also On:

Lafayette at #13 Pitt - 7pm, ESPNU

Live Blog:

Houston at UMass - 7pm, Posting Up

STF reader and fellow college basketball writer David Scott will be live-blogging a huge mid-major clash tonight over at the CSTV blog Posting Up. It's a good one - Houston (11-1) and UMass (10-2) battling for a bigger piece of the national limelight. In fact, it's probably better than any of the televised action you'll see tonight.

If you plan on doing any live-blogging on your own college basketball site this season, be sure to let us know before 4pm so we can include it in Hoop Night.
