You may have noticed that Rhode Island and North Carolina both wear light blue. You may also have picked up on the fact that they both use a curly-horned ram as their mascot. You have definitely noticed that both teams are doing well this season.
So here's what I want for Christmas - a tournament game between UNC and RI in which Rhody and Rameses can go toe-to-toe, and there's so much light blue in the stands you think you're asleep and dreaming of the cloudless summer sky.
According to my research, the Rams and Tarheels have met just once in March: a 112-67 rout in 1993's second round, as the 1-seed led by Dean Smith advanced over a #8 seed Rams team.
If the tempo established by both teams persists into March, UNC will still have that 1 seed, but Rhody will probably have a 3 or 4. So we'd be talking about a more meaningful game if this comes to pass.
So let's all cross our fingers and pull for this matchup to actually occur. I'm willing to defer until March, Santa.
Here's hoping all of you college hoops maniacs get whatever you asked for this season - whether you've been naughty or nice.
