And the First Person Out the Door at Memphis is...

Assistant coach Chuck Martin. He's headed to Poughkeepsie, NY to take over MAAC member Marist. A place with the Red Foxes opened up after Matt Brady took a step up to the CAA to take over at James Madison University.

Prior to joining Calipari at Memphis, Martin was an assistant under STF favorite Bruiser Flint, both at UMass and at Drexel. A native of New York state, Martin seemed happy to be home, saying:

My family and I are extremely happy to be a part of the Marist community. I’m excited to be back in my home state, and I’m looking forward to continuing a fine basketball tradition at Marist.

Marist has been competitive in the MAAC, finishing last year at 18-14. The Red Foxes haven't been to the big dance since 1987, so no doubt winning a MAAC championship will be a major goal on Martin's list.

Tyneke Evans has DDM Fever

In most instances, I can’t stand recruiting. I’m not one to get fired up about an 18-year old basketball player at least until he suits up for an official practice. But the story of recruit Tyneke Evans has actually grabbed my attention. First off, he is Philly product, hailing from the city of Chester. Secondly, his brother Reggie plays for the Sixers. Finally (and most interesting), he has some interesting baggage heading into college, as he witnessed his cousin murder someone while he was a passenger in the same vehicle. Evans was quickly cleared of any wrong-doing, but baggage never-the-less.

Today, Evans turned down hometown Villanova to sign with Memphis, where he will look to fill in Derrick Rose's and most likely CDR's massive shoes (You know, as long as Calipari signs that extension). Nova could have been lethal with Evans, Reynolds and Fischer on the perimeter, but he decided to head south to play with Coach Cal and the DDM offense. As a 6’6 guard, who can blame Evans for wanting to play in the Memphis system, where he is liable to score 28 ppg next year. But then again, I know absolutely nothing about recruiting, so I'm going to stop right now.

Kansas Fans Are Still Slightly Excited About Winning the Championship

I learned first hand while in San Antonio last week how passionate Kansas fans really are (seriously, Rock Chalk Jayhawk is still stuck in my head), but man, that is some turnout for the championship parade yesterday. An estimated 100,000 fans showed up in Lawrence yesterday to congratulate the Jayhawks on their championship. In all honestly, I was unaware that 100,000 people even lived in the state of Kansas until this story. Here are a few more pictures of the whole event from the Lawrence Daily World.

No word yet if they counted football coach Mangino as "1" or "1000" when they made the estimate of people.
