While everyone is caught up it what is setting up to be the most entertaining Final Four in year, it's easy to forget that the offseason has already begun for the other 300 plus teams in college basketball. With that said, he's a quick recap of some of the offseason moves that may have fallen under-the-radar thanks to the Final Four hype.
Coaching Mill
- The biggest job out there is vacant heading coaching position at Indiana.....and no one seems wants to touch it with a 10-foot pole, WSU's Tony Bennett has already turned down the job, Xavier's Sean Miller is apparently too rich for IU and even freakin' Isaiah turned it down. I'd still be willing to place some money on my long-shot candidate, Scott Drew of Baylor.
- Speaking of Bennett, rumor is that he may have turned down the IU job because he has his eye on the Cal opening, which isn't a bad job when you considered the potential recruiting base of the Bay Area.
- The Providence vacancy has drawn interest from two east coast coaches with tourney success; Phil Martelli and Jim Larranaga. Martelli has reportedly already turned down the Big East money, but Larranaga is a PC grad who may still jump.
- One major vacancy that we can just about pencil in..... South Carolina is prepared to hire WKU's Darrin Horn. Great jump to the SEC for the young Horn, whose stock my not ever be any higher than it is right now.
- Also hot in the coaching world is Davidson's Bob McKillop. He has already turned down a large offer from Rice (seriously?), but Ill be shocked if that is the last one.
- Kent State coach Jim Christian is off to TCU, which actually seems like a worse job than Kent State to us
- A bizarre rumor that I heard from Doug Gottlieb on ESPN Radio last night.....if Kansas had lost to Davidson, Bill Self was going to jump to Oklahoma State for $5 million a year. Sounds off the wall at first, but Gottlieb has been right on things like this before (Alford to New Mexico last season).
Draft Mill
- The world of college basketball became a little less flamboyant today and both of the Lopez twins announced that they would be making the jump to the NBA. Sadness, still don't think we reached the humor potential on those two.
- For the record, Stephen Curry announced that he is staying in college.
- Taylor King, who we figured was a shoe-in to be the next JJ Reddick, is all set to transfer form Duke. Could this be the beginning of a McDonald's All-American backlash?
- In case you didn't notice when he made the announce before the Elite Eight, Derek Caracter is going to the NBA. I really hope he's drafted in the late second round and rocking the D-League in a year from now.
Recruiting Mill
Eric and I actually hate recruiting talk, we only bring you this story because of it's hilariousness. Wake Forest recruit and McDonald's All-American was arrested for shooting a women in the stomach with a bb gun for no real good reason. As odd as that already sounds, the quote from the victim's husband makes this story....
"I'll tell you, his shooting at my house was much better than his shooting at the McDonald's game," said Branden Baltich, referring to Aminu's 0-point performance Wednesday.
See, this is why I stay away from college recruiting.
