Owls May Be The Big 5's Best Chance, Thanks to Gus Johnson

Thankfully, the Big 5 avoided being shut out of the NCAA Tournament, surprisingly landing three teams in the Dance when landing just one team appeared bleak only a week ago. Granted, St. Joes’, Temple and Nova all got double-digits seeds, but don’t be shocked to see a Philly team pull off an upset. Temple gets a Michigan State squad that hasn’t exactly set the world on fire in the weak Big Ten, Nova is playing a Clemson squad that hasn’t played in an NCAA Tournament game since 1998 and SJU is practically favored against a bang-up Oklahoma squad.

But of all the possible Philly upsets, Temple may have received the biggest boost of all when it was announced that Gus Johnson would be announcing the first round game against the Spartans (While you're at it, you may want to take a look at ORU over Pitt in the next game). Gus always seems to be on hand for some of the biggest upsets in recent college basketball history (think UCLA-Princeton in 1996, Syracuse-Vermont in 2005, UCLA-Gonzaga in 2006, and the almost upset of Ohio State-Xavier in 2007). CBS knows what they are doing when they sent Gus to Denver, and you have to believe that plays into the Owls favor.

Thanks for bringing up UCLA-Gonzaga while leaving out Gus on the mike for Gonzaga-Florida, "The slipper still fits."

I refuse to admit that the UCLA game ever happened. Worst day ever.
