Word on the Court 5/23

Apparently, not many college basketball players are enthralled with all of the mid-May pomp and circumstance surrounding the graduation season, as an extraordinarily high number (well, at least it seems like it to me) of players are bolting from their respective schools. Somehow, 75% of these moves involve Indiana in some form.

- While he's not exactly transferring, uber-prospect Devin Ebanks was let out of his NLI from Indiana and will join Huggy in West Virginia. If Alexander unexpectedly returns to Morgantown, except couches to be ablaze in April.

- North Carolina big man/reserve Alex Stepheson is leaving Chapel Hill to be closer to home, which is leading most to assume he is on his way to UCLA.

- Iowa State, looking like they might be competitive for first time since Eustachy was still crushing cheap beers, took an enormous hit when Wesley Johnson announced that he was planning to transfer

- In the most hilarious transfer news of the week, Emmanemul Negedu has asked out of his NLI with Arizona, citing all of the "drama" with Lute Olsen and his coaching staff. Mary J approves.

- Michigan has signed 6'10 German Robin Benzing who, brace yourself, is being compared to Dirk Nowitzki. How original.

- And of course, it wouldn't be a complete week without some getting kicked off Indiana. This time, it's Brandon McGee. Cripes, they may need to suit up Eammon just fill out the roster.

- But wait.....someone is actually wants to go to Indiana! Jeremiah Rivers that is, as it looks as if he will leave Georgetown to join Crean and Hooisers.

- As the coaching carousel is just about coming to a halt, two Division III stole the headlines as Bucknell has decided to hire former Williams College coach Dave Paulsen to take over for Pat Flannery, while St. Francis (PA) hired Lycoming coach Don Friday to fill their coaching vacancy. As the first time (and possibly last time) that I get to mention my alma mater Susquehanna and arch-rival Lycoming on this site, I can tell you that despite my hatred for Lyco and their security guards that "escorted" me out of the 2006 SU-Lyco football game, I very happy to see some D-III coaches get some love.

- Don't they tar and feather you in Kansas for this kind of crazy talk? A KC writer wonders if the Jayhawks may have to give back their title because of Darrell Arthur.

- This OJ Mayo story is quickly turning Clemens-like in it's level of annoyance. The latest is that Mayo has fired his agent because of the NCAA probe. That, or he's upset that he didn't get more than $30,000 while in college.

- Best dunks in college basketball history? Sure, why not? It's a holiday weekend.
