Welcome To The Worst Week On The College Basketball Calender

Welcome to college basketball's dead week.

The shortage of college basketball games comes from the dreaded "Finals Week" at most colleges around the country. I think it's funny how many people forget these players are still "student athletes" and need to take exams to pass (that is, unless your taking a class taught by Jim Harrick or Clem Haskins) . Because of exams, nearly every college basketball team will be taking some sort of extended break during the week, producing the single worst week of the college basketball season.

This dead week was kicked off last evening by probably the single worst day on the college basketball calender. Of the eight games tipped off last evening....

  • Three games included Non-Division I schools, including Newport News Apprentice and Nova Southeastern.
  • The "highlight" of the evening was a 47-39 Ohio State victory over Coppin State. That sounds like it may have been even worse than the Saints-Falcons game.
  • One game featured now 2-7 Stony Brook topping 0-12 New Jersey Tech
  • Zero games were on national television (Big Ten Network doesn't count).

So yeah, it's going to be a long week. The rest of the week won't be nearly as bad as Monday, saved by Saint Mary's at SIU (Tuesday), UMass at BC (Wed) and Miami (FL) at Miss State (Thurs), but still a rough week for hoops.

It's probably for the best, even for serious college basketball fans. If you are in college, stop reading this and get back to studying/taking Adderall. You need to pass these finals if you want to spend next semester getting wasted and rooting for your team in March. If you are out of college and have a family....sounds like a Christmas shopping week to me! Whatever the case, we'll still be here at STF, even if it means a full post on Florida Gulf Coast vs Army by Friday.

Go Seawolves! (I live in Stony Brook btw)

And they totally should have beaten Kentucky.

I live in Columbus but hate OSU. That being said, I don't think they are very good this year. That's about 5 poor games in a row.

And thanks to the quarter schedule (classes have been done since Thanksgiving), the 6-2 Ohio Bobcats are able to take on Maryland Wednesday night. Hooray, 10-week classes!
