The Big 12
Texas (7): DJ Augustin is gone. Texas is still the team that made it to the NCAA Elite Eight last year. They have a lot of returning talent and can make a run at the title. Watch out for Damion James this year. He managed to, very quietly, average a double-double last year and is a powerful post presence. AJ Abrams is another player to look out for on this team. This kid can flat out shoot and it seems like he will be handling the ball more with Augustin gone. It should be an interesting season for the Longhorns.
Oklahoma (12): Oklahoma is an NCAA football school right? It's not just NCAA football anymore.
This team can play. They have their stud freshman (now sophomore), Griffin, returning after deciding not to enter the draft. Many people actually have the Sooners ahead of Texas in the conference. The Red River Rivalry is going to be as exciting on the hardwood this year as it has been on the football field. The Sooners also have the recruit considered to be the top in the conference in Willie Warren. He's a point/shooting guard who can score in bunches. He put up a game-high 23 points with the McDonalds jersey on.
Kansas (24): No respect for the defending NCAA champs. There is good reason for that, however. When five key players from your team get drafted it is sufficient to say a rebuild is necessary. They do have a few bright spots in their rebuild. The most notable of these is Sherron Collins. He is a dynamic presence in the backcourt and can really impact a game. They also have a center that played a little bit last year and seems to have great rebounding skills and solid defense. Kansas is a wait-and-see job this year, so, we will wait and see.
