I'm not exactly sure when Forbes starting covering college basketball, but they did a fun little study recently to determine the most valuable college basketball programs. The value of each team was based on how much each of basketball programs made for their university, athletic department, conference, local communities and several other economic factors that I just simply didn't understand and or stopped reading after about 15 seconds.
Here is your top 5 most valuable programs according to Forbes. Not surprisingly, it's dominated by the blue-blooded teams from North Carolina and Kentucky.
1. North Carolina - $26 million
More wine and cheese to go around!
2. Kentucky - $24.9 million
Thanks in part to Kige's generous donation of wood paneling.
3. Louisville - $24.4 million
Funny, their fans seem to the think the team is worth shit this season.
4. Arizona - 22.9 million
But may lose half in Lute's divorce settlement.
5. Duke - 22.6 million
$17 million coming from Coach K Amex commercials.
And the rest of the Top 20...
6. Indiana - 19.4 million
7. Illinois - 19.4 million
8. Kansas - 16.0 million
9. Wisconsin - 15.7 million
10. Ohio State - 15.3
11. Texas - 15.0 million
12. Missouri - 14.5 million
13. NC State - 13.6 million
14. UCLA - 13.6 million
15. Oklahoma State - 13.5 million
16. Michigan State - 13.4 million
17. Maryland - 13.1 million
18. Syracuse - 12.7 million
19. Arkansas - 12.6 million
20. Xavier - 10.7 million
Pretty much what you might expect, until you get to the bottom. Xavier is worth 10 million? What in the world of semi mid-major basketball is going on? After seeing the Forbes report, Bally has reportedly cut off all ties with the Musketeers.

The Mizzou program probably gained value the minute they fired Quin Snyder.
I know Lute Olsen's wife (her kids and I went to school together), and she's ridiculously rich. Way more so than Lute. Her last husband owned 84 lumber amongst other things (he's 80 and now married to a 20 year old). Her family endowed a huge sports complex at my school, and her house in Indiana PA is a former 80 room hotel.
80-room Motel 6, maybe. Whoopdeedoo. Cocksucker.
I'm kind of dissapointed Syracuse is already down at 18th with how much they charge us for tickets.
not to mention the sheer number of people they can fit into that building
A friend of my cousin's best friend's kid sister's favorite bartender's dogsitter knew Mrs. Calhoun. She has alot of money.
Your best friend Harry has a brother Larry and In five days from now he's gonna marry. He's hopin you can make it there if you can 'Cause in the ceremony you'll be the best man. You say "neato", and note that Mrs. Calhoun has a lot of money.
probably just stating the obvious here, but Indiana PA is an absurdly terrible place to live, 80 room motel or not. lute wins, the crafty old bastard.
Being a Xavier fan, I can't believe we are that high on the list. Apparently, we have some kind of a seat licensing deal which i don't really understand. We only have about 3,500 undergrads and the gym holds only 10,000 fans and its not sold out every game. I really am in shock about this.
I'm not surprised that UNC is tops in basketball revenue, but I reached this page from SI.com and I find it interesting that they post a picture from one of our football games. Our football sucks and our attendance was once characterized by a formar coach as the "come late, if at all, and leave early, crowd. I guess they used that picture because of the girls.
There is obviously a mistake in the calculations as Auburn's men's basketball team usually generates about $20 million a year.
