STF Super Awesome Team Preview: #16 USC Trojans

#16 USC Trojans

Team: USC

Conference: Pac 10

2006 Record and Ending: 23-12, lost to North Carolina in the Sweet Sixteen.

Key Players Returning: The story of the Trojans isn't who is returning, it's more about who is gone and who is arriving. F Taj Gibson (12 ppg, 8rpg) and G Daniel Hackett (3 apg) are the returning starters from last season's surprising Sweet 16 run, but the focus be on the arrival of OJ Mayo and the departure of 44% of last year's offense in Gabe Pruitt, Lodrick Stewart, and Nick Young.

What's To Love: OJ Mayo. The most hyped and possibly most talented player to come out of high school since LeBron James. In high school, he has shown the ability to simply take over games. He had 41 pints 10 bounds and 11 assists in a state championship game. Even for high school, you can see that the all-around skills are there. How this will all go over college is another story

What's Not To Love: OJ Mayo. Outside of the talent, there are some serious questions about his maturity and arrogance.. What questions? Well, when you assault a ref, are caught with drugs and there are allegations that you punched teammate Hackett, some issues might be raised.

Key Player: OJ Mayo! (Like the above two paragraphs didn't give it away) But another freshmen will be key....Davon Jefferson will be needed to provide some inside toughness alongside Gibson if the Trojans want to be successful.

Best Case: Mayo is one his best behavior and displays an all-around game that is comparable to LeBron James, Jefferson can be the unhereled freshmen who provides the difference in the post, Gibson remains a beast in the paint, this young team can cut down on turnovers, the unproven bench can help fill the void left by Young, Pruitt and Stewart.

Worst Case: The worst in Mayo's personalities come out and this whole thing blows up in Tim Floyd and USC's face

STF Prediction: 4th to 6th in the Pac-10, Round of 32

What happened to WSU? I saw your prediction of their finish in the Pac 10 was higher than Stanford, lower than 'Zona.

I guess if they are not in your top 30 I understand that they need to prove that last year was no fluke to get ranked; personally I think they do better as the underdog anyway.
